I’m sure you have heard people use this phrase from time to time to time and I have used it myself on occasion. It usually occurs when somebody asks another how they are doing or what’s going in their world. A common response to that type of questioning is “Oh, you know – just living the dream…” A lot of times I have found that the response is quite sarcastic maybe even a little jaded.
The other day this response popped in my head as I was doing some business planning, ok business “dreaming.” I thought about why the response of “Living the dream” often comes across as less than genuine. Is it because the person answering the question isn’t really “living the dream” and isn’t actually living the life they want or thought they would lead? Is it because the “dream” they are living isn’t there’s but maybe someone else’s? I don’t know and am certainly not going to pretend to make a sweeping assumption about the true nature of someone answering a question like this, but it did get me thinking.
So let’s take a closer look at the phrase “Living the Dream.” What does this phrase actually mean? Does it mean Living the American Dream? I think that may be how a lot of people use the phrase. I have to ask though, is the American Dream YOUR Dream? It isn’t mine. It used to be though. It used to be all about the job, the house, the cars, the cloths, the bank account, etc. That’s not my “Dream” anymore. There is nothing inherently wrong with my old dreams, just not who I am anymore. So for me the phrase “Living the Dream” would mean I was living someone else’s dream and not my own. As for my dreams, well that is for another day.
I guess I have rambled along in this blog to suggest that maybe I shouldn’t be wrapped up in living “THE” dream, but living “MY” dream. Now my “Dream” is not a reality yet, but I have come to realize that if I don’t start living that dream NOW then it will never be………but that too is another thought for another day.
LIVE YOUR DREAM

I can’t tell you how many times I have talked to people about their insurance and they have it spread out all over the place. The husband has his car with this company, his wife has her car with that company and then they have their house with even another company. That means multiple bills [...]

That is a question I get a lot and it is a pretty easy one to explain. The best rule of thumb is to maintain limits of liability at least equal to if not exceeding your net worth (I also throw in “perceived” net worth as well – which I’ll explain in a moment). If [...]
